Voltaire: An Agentic Multiphysics Platform for Chip Design Powered by NVIDIA Accelerated Computing
Voltai is advancing hardware engineering with an agentic GPU-native multiphysics platform applied to real semiconductor designs at scale, powered by NVIDIA accelerated computing (NVIDIA’s announcement). Voltaire, Voltai’s multiphysics simulation platform, models electrical, thermal, and mechanical behavior together, with AI agents coordinating simulation and design iterations to help engineers evaluate design alternatives.
Why 3D stacking needs multiphysics analysis
In 3D chip integration, electrical, thermal, and mechanical behavior increasingly interact. Heat affects electrical resistance and leakage, while differences in material expansion rates create mechanical deformation and stress that can shift device behavior and significantly alter circuit timing. Treating these effects independently can miss interactions that affect performance and reliability, leading engineers to add conservative design margins. These margins can limit power, performance, and area (PPA) improvements. Voltai’s unified, first-principles simulation platform enables engineers to model these coupled effects more accurately, replace uncertainty-driven margins with physics-grounded design decisions, and capture PPA gains that would otherwise remain unrealized.
Accelerating multiphysics simulation with NVIDIA cuDSS
Voltaire uses NVIDIA cuDSS for direct sparse factorization within its GPU-accelerated multiphysics platform. Its electromagnetic extraction pipeline runs 32× faster on eight NVIDIA H100 GPUs vs. 64-CPU baseline, while meeting the same accuracy criteria. Faster simulation helps engineers evaluate more design alternatives before committing to a design.
AI agents operate the platform
Fast simulation enables AI agents to explore more design alternatives. Voltaire coordinates the workflow by selecting solution methods, managing computational resources, and verifying results. Each simulation informs the next iteration; physics analysis combined with agentic reasoning helps engineers to identify and address design flaws by proposing sophisticated design alternatives that satisfy the specifications. This connects simulation results to the next design iteration within a single workflow.
What this means for design teams
The future of multiphysics chip design will be agentic and GPU-accelerated, as one neurosymbolic system. For chip and package design teams, this results in one integrated multiphysics engine in place of a chain of approximations, answers obtained in days instead of months, and design decisions made with high fidelity physics predictions in hand rather than with margins.
